TriMac Engineering 

We are TriMac Engineering, a locally owned engineering consulting firm with offices located in Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia. Incorporated in 2015 with roots dating back to 1991, TriMac Engineering initially offered its clients mechanical and electrical Engineering Consulting services. We have since grown to offer clients a wide range of Engineering Consulting, Sustainability and Energy, Project Management and Development services across the entire province, with active projects from Yarmouth to Sydney. The TriMac Engineering process is guided by a value-added and client-focused philosophy. No matter the project complexity, the goal is simple and followed from project planning to completion – optimize project outcome, minimize project overall lifetime cost, and maximize value for the client.

Abundant Solar Energy Inc. 

Abundant Solar Energy Inc. is an independent solar power developer based in Canada and the United States with executives who have over 70 years of combined expertise in the renewable energy industry.  In Canada, Abundant manages over $50 million of development equity capital and has $75 million of assets under long term management. ASE is a full-service developer with many years of experience in the solar industry, and an executive team that brings further expertise in financing, development, sales & marketing, EPC, and operations.  

AI Renewable

AI Renewable Subco 2020 Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of AI Renewable 2020-I LP (AI Renewable), is the initial equity partner in the 4 Projects. AI Renewable is a flow-through limited partnership to finance high efficiency and/or renewable energy projects that help to reduce energy costs and emissions in Canada.

Key Personnel

  • Principal, TriMac Engineering

    Joel has over 11 years of engineering experience in the energy sector, focusing on renewable energy, having developed, managed, and overseen renewable energy lifetime extension projects for clients. Joel also has a broad technical engineering skill-set including pumping systems, oil/water separation, process piping and equipment, instrumentation & controls (PLC), metals fabrication, machining, and machine safety. From project development, management, to detailed design, Joel uses his diverse skills to ensure the success of projects. Joel continues to oversee TriMac’s energy portfolio, while growing further in Renewable Energy.

  • Principal, TriMac Engineering

    Andrew has over 16 years of project management and mechanical engineering experience working in the engineering consulting, power generation and manufacturing industries. His design expertise include HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, process equipment and piping, as well as commissioning and project management & development. He has overseen, managed and executed all aspects of projects from scoping/concept, through detailed design, construction, to final commissioning and completion.

    Blair has over 40 years of electrical engineering experience in the design of power and control systems. His experience includes the design and commissioning of PLC/DCS-based industrial control systems, electrical distribution systems, motor control systems, emergency power systems, lighting, fire detection, and communications. Blair has worked in a wide range of industries including power generation, construction, mining and pulp & paper. Blair founded Mactron Engineering, the precursor to TriMac Engineering in 1991.

  • CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, ABUNDANT SOLAR ENERGY INC.

    Dr. Lü is the founder of Abundant Solar Energy Inc. and brings over 20 years of global executive-level management experience in the energy and technology industries, with a specialized focus on the development of Solar Photovoltaic projects. With an advanced understanding of both financial and tactical strategies, Richard is currently managing assets in excess of $150 million while continuing to identify new opportunities to develop green energy initiatives in Canada and the USA. In the past, he worked as CEO or Directors for private or public sectors, secured over $100M investment in solar PV development in Canada and USA. He has extensive knowledge in utility industry and was former VP and Chief Conservation Office of Toronto Hydro. He holds EMBA degree from Rotman, University of Toronto.

  • CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, ABUNDANT SOLAR ENERGY INC.

    Andrew has over 22 years of experience in Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Utility Project Management. As a former president of the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CANSIA), Andrew has expertise in the management of operations and construction for solar photovoltaic systems. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario. He leads an experienced team of professionals to EPC hundreds of solar arrays sized up to 9 MW AC in Canada and the USA. Prior to Abundant Solar, he worked as Vice President of Engineering & Construction in Potentia Renewables, and completed $240M solar roof top build-out in Ontario

  • CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER, ABUNDANT SOLAR ENERGY INC.

    Tracy is an accomplished business strategist with over 20 years of management experience in brand marketing, investments, business development, and solar project operations. She led Ontario’s FIT 2, 3, 4, and 5 applications totalling over 300 MW solar (over 600 projects) and achieved the highest success rate in small FIT contract acquisition. Tracy holds MBA degree from Schulich Business School, York University.

  • Chairman, AI Renewable

    Dr. Elliot Strashin has over 8 years of experience in the energy sector. As President & CEO of Strashin Power Corporation, he led development efforts of a solar project that received a Feed-in-Tariff contract that is currently owned and operated by the company. Additionally, Elliot is also a director of dynaCERT Inc. which is a corporation that developed an on-demand computerized electrolysis unit that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption for fossil fuel burning engines. Strashin is the third generation to run the 65-year-old S. Strashin and Sons Ltd., which specializes in developing, repositioning, and greening the city’s old factory buildings. The company operates geothermal or ground source heat pump, which provides the heating and cooling for buildings.

    He is the Chairman of AI Renewables which is a flow-through limited partnership that finances high efficiency and renewable energy projects that help reduce energy costs in Canada. In the aforementioned energy sector roles, Dr. Elliot promotes the success of the companies and works with other executives to make strategic and operational decisions. His areas of expertise within the energy sector are business development and innovation.

  • CFO, AI Renewable

    Mr. Ierfino is the founder of his accounting firm and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of AI Renewable Fund and brings over 40 years of experience as a Charter Professional Accountant to the flow-through limited partnership that invests in high-efficiency and solar energy projects. Informed by his extensive understanding of the dynamic and complex nature of the accounting profession, his areas of expertise within the energy sector are financial analysis, strategic planning and internal controls. For the last 8 years Nick has owned and operated rooftop solar projects. He plays a major part in raising substantial funds through the capital markets.

  • Director (Secretary & Treasurer), AI Renewable

    Mr. D’Uva has over 30 years of experience in the energy sector. Peter’s areas of expertise within the energy sector are energy sales, customer service, and infrastructure resource planning. He is the Director and Secretary of AI Renewable.

    As Vice President of Sales at Toronto Hydro Energy Services, he built and managed a sales team and the back office to support the sales of energy contracts and other energy-related services to commercial, industrial, and residential customers. Additionally, Peter was the Senior Vice President of Customer Services at Toronto Hydro-Electric System. In this role he directed the department's completion of tasks related to metering, billing, collection, and customer inquiries. Additionally, he managed teams that were responsible for supplying the electric infrastructure required to accommodate new development projects in the City of Toronto.

    Moreover, as President of Toronto Streetlighting Company, Peter was responsible for creating a new non-regulated company following the deregulation of the electric industry which warranted that streetlighting could no longer operate as part of the regulated utility business. In this role, he led the transition of Toronto Hydro’s streetlight Company from a monopoly operation to a successful commercial business.

  • Director (Business Development), AI Renewable

    Dr. Richard Bower is a developer, owner and operator of renewable energy and sustainable advanced technology companies. He served as a senior executive in the Federal government for over 20 years, with positions as Director General International Affairs, Director General Office of Industrial Innovation and Director Canada Marketing Secretariat in Industry Canada, Senior Policy Advisor in the Privy Council and Counselor Science & Technology at the Canadian Embassy in Japan. Richard holds a PhD in Physics from Princeton University.

 Project Team
