TriMac Engineering is a locally owned, multidisciplined engineering firm founded by a group of experienced mechanical and electrical engineers, headquartered and practicing in Nova Scotia with two offices located in Halifax and Sydney. Incorporated in 2015 with roots dating back to 1991, TriMac Engineering initially offered its clients mechanical and electrical Engineering Consulting services.  TriMac Engineering is currently seeking an intermediate mechanical engineer to be a key team member of our Halifax office as we continue to expand our business across the province. The successful candidate will have a solid mix of project design and management experience, business development experience, and will help us expand our capabilities in order to continue our growth and to take advantage of new opportunities throughout Nova Scotia and beyond. The Intermediate mechanical engineer will report to the Manager - Mechanical Engineering.

Job Description:

  • Function as a key member of the TriMac Engineering Buildings Team as we continue to expand.

  • Contribute to the successful completion of engineering projects from initial development to final commissioning and inspection.

  • Complete detailed designs of mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. This includes HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, building automation systems, and specialized building services.

  • Coordinate with clients, architects and contractors and other stakeholders as required.

  • Draft technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates and reports.

  • Perform engineering calculations as required.

  • Assess life cycle costs of various systems.

  • Develop energy models of new or existing facilities.

  • Promote TriMac Engineering’s Brand and corporate image in outward facing dealings with clients, collaborators, sub-consultants, associations, committees, etc.

  • Contribute positively to the day-to-day office environment and culture at TriMac Engineering through respectful and considerate interaction with your peers and colleagues, and following the TriMac Values.

  • Travel to job sites individually and with other staff to gather relevant design data, take measurements and to inspect work performed by contractors and prepare construction inspection/deficiency reports. Occasional overnight travel to remote locations and Sydney office will be required.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Registered P.Eng. with Engineers Nova Scotia.

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university.

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering technical work experience and project management experience in building systems including development of design packages for construction.

  • Working knowledge of relevant safety, environmental, building, plumbing and fire codes and regulations.

  • Class 5 driver’s license and use of own vehicle; some travel required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Organized, self-motivated, pro-active, detail oriented.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to successfully lead a multidiscipline team in executing projects under pressure and tight deadlines.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in using energy modeling software such as RETScreen, and others such as Carrier HAP, eQuest, CANQuest.

  • The ability to multi-task multiple projects on multiple deadlines and delegate when appropriate to junior staff.

  • The ability to function productively with minimal supervision.

  • The ability to manage and supervise the work of junior staff and to provide mentorship that will leverage their abilities to achieve success.

  • Team player with the ability to work and communicate positively within a team.

  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and project conditions.

  • Independent self-starter, able to work productively both individually and as part of a team, as well as to provide technical guidance to junior staff during projects.

  • Project management experience. Possession of PMP designation is an asset.

  • Green design experience. Possession of LEED BD+C certification is an asset.

  • Market knowledge and professional networks in the Halifax Region is an asset.

  • Project experience in municipal, provincial and federal government public sector is an asset.

  • Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD is a strong asset.
