TriMac Engineering is a locally owned, multidisciplined engineering firm founded by a group of experienced mechanical and electrical engineers, headquartered and practicing in Nova Scotia with two offices located in Halifax and Sydney. Incorporated in 2015 with roots dating back to 1991, TriMac Engineering initially offered its clients mechanical and electrical Engineering Consulting services.  TriMac Engineering is currently seeking an intermediate electrical engineer to be a key team member of our Halifax office as we continue to expand our business across the province. The successful candidate will have a solid mix of project design and management experience, business development experience, and will help us expand our capabilities in order to continue our growth and to take advantage of new opportunities throughout Nova Scotia and beyond. The Intermediate Electrical engineer will report to the Buildings Team Manager.

 Job Description

  • Function as a key member of the TriMac Engineering Buildings Team as we continue to expand.

  • Provide Electrical engineering design, management, and support to diverse projects across ICI sectors, through all project phases.

  • Travel to job sites individually and with other staff to gather relevant design data, take measurements and to inspect work done by contractors.  Occasional overnight travel to remote locations and Halifax field office will be required.

  • Create preliminary designs, detailed designs, provide construction support shop drawing reviews, conduct site inspections, make recommendations, etc.

  • Self and peer review ensuring all electrical design’s are complaint with Canadian Electrical Code, CSA standards, UL, National Building code, NFPA, etc.

  • Perform engineering calculations as required.

  • Coordinate electrical scopes with TriMac’s multidisciplinary team on a regular basis.

  • Produce CAD Drawings and specifications for designs as required, including single diagrams, detailed control wiring diagrams, electrical power distribution, I/O lists, panel diagrams, cable schedules, bills of materials, building electrical and lighting layouts, etc.

  • Produce engineering reports, cost estimates, and other required documents.

  • Promote TriMac Engineering’s Brand and corporate image in outward facing dealings with clients, collaborators, sub-consultants, associations, committees, etc.

  • Contribute positively to the day-to-day office environment and culture at TriMac Engineering through respectful and considerate interaction with your peers and colleagues, and following the TriMac Values.

  • Travel to job sites individually and with other staff to gather relevant design data, take measurements and to inspect work performed by contractors and prepare construction inspection/deficiency reports. Occasional overnight travel to remote locations and Sydney office will be required.

 Required Qualifications

  • Registered P.Eng. with Engineers Nova Scotia.

  • Bachelor Engineering (Electrical) Degree from Accredited University  

  • 5+ years of related professional experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit MEP

  • Keen understanding of drawing presentation & organization.

  • Strong personal organisation and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize to meet deadlines.

  • Class 5 driver’s license and use of own vehicle; some travel required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Organized, self-motivated, pro-active, detail oriented.

  • The ability to multi-task multiple projects on multiple deadlines and delegate when appropriate to junior staff.

  • The ability to learn and apply new information.

  • The ability to function productively with minimal supervision.

  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and project conditions.

  • The ability to self-check own work and avoid errors.

  • Steady, reliable, consistent, and able to work productively both individually and as part of a team.

  • Project management experience. Possession of PMP designation is an asset.

  • Project experience in municipal, provincial and federal government public sector is an asset.

  • Green design experience. Possession of LEED BD+C certification is an asset.

  • Market knowledge and professional networks in the Halifax Region is an asset.
